Malta, a beautiful island nation in the Mediterranean, is known for its high quality of life, safety and friendly community. As a member of the European Union and the Schengen Area, it offers easy travel across Europe in a stable, well-connected environment. Through the Malta Permanent Residence Programme (MPRP), individuals and families of up to four generations can gain permanent residency, with no language requirement.
Malta is a sovereign island nation in the heart of the Mediterranean, between Southern Europe and North Africa, known for its historic charm, scenic coastlines and high quality of life.
The country is made up of three main islands, Malta, Gozo and the smaller Comino, covering a total area of 316 square kilometres. With around 300 days of sunshine a year and some of the clearest waters in the world, island life offers hiking, diving and water sports all year round.
The capital, Valletta, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its baroque architecture, impressive fortifications and vibrant cultural life, and it was a European Capital of Culture. Malta's history, shaped by the Phoenicians, Romans, Arabs, Knights of St. John, French and British, has earned the islands the name of an open-air museum.
Maltese and English are the official languages, and English is the language of choice for business, with government services, media and road signs offered in both. Malta gained independence in 1964 and became a republic in 1974.
Malta has consistently punched above its weight in economic growth. Its key industries include tourism, financial services, gaming, pharmaceuticals, maritime and aviation. The official currency is the Euro (EUR).
Malta joined the European Union in 2004 and is a member of the Schengen Area, the euro area, the United Nations and the Commonwealth.
Investing in a second residency can offer various benefits, including better global mobility, access to education and healthcare, retirement planning, a pathway to citizenship and a Plan B for the family.
